Canadian Railway Hall of Fame unveils new website honouring Canada’s rail industry’s past and celebrating its future
Interested in learning about Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot’s connection to Canada’s rail industry? What about the contribution of Violet Isabel Cumming, one of the many women across Canada who helped keep the country’s railways running during the Second World War? Visitors to the online Canadian Railway Hall of Fame (CRHF) can read these stories and more on the organization’s brand-new website devoted to showcasing the individuals and groups that have been instrumental in shaping Canada’s vibrant rail industry.
“We’re thrilled to launch our new website, which will help us shine a light on Canada’s rich rail history” said Janet Greene, Chair of CRHF’s Board of Directors. “Many Canadians understand the rail industry’s role building our country, but they may not necessarily know about some of the important figures, locations and innovations along the way. This website brings Canada’s fascinating rail stories to life, and facilitates the nomination process to ensure that we continue to recognize those that are making our country’s railway network what it is today.”
Through a user-friendly design, the website features every inductee since the CRHF was established in 2002, and allows visitors to easily submit nominations in the following categories: rail heroes; industry trailblazers; community champions; and technological innovation. In addition, visitors can learn everything about the CRHF and stay up to date on the latest Canadian railway industry news.
The contributions of CRHF inductees have helped establish Canada’s railway industry as the backbone of the economy and our country’s world-class supply chain. Canada’s freight railways connect their customers to the global marketplace by delivering safe and efficient rail service at rates that are among the lowest in the industrialized world. In addition, passenger railways provide a safe and environmentally friendly service to more than 84 million people each year.
